Two American heroes team up to deliver the straight prison-funk, and they’ve got the tattoos to prove it.  Somebody call the Department of Homeland Security.

It’s no secret that Kris Wadsworth and Butane have both done hard time.  In this case, a simple mutual respect lead to the decision that this record must be made.  And so here it is.  Three tracks of uncompromising raw attitude.  Nothing premeditated here.  Just honest, warehouse-style jack-mode techno, done by two of the Midwest’s finest.

Some DJs over-sell themselves with contrived media stunts, fancy PR schemes, and little substance.  You’ll find none of that here.  We’re just a couple of convicts who rip raw techno tracks.

Each EP will showcase a single track, crafted skillfully from material in the label’s catalog. Aimed squarely at DJs, these Edits will be considerably more elaborate than the reduced tools from which they’re assembled. Edit 1 is a jackin’ Chicago-style afterhours workout, built from the outstanding original works of Butane, Ryan Crosson, Duky, Someone Else, Mark Henning, Kai Limberger, and Mr. Bizz.

LITTLE HELPERS // LITTLE HELPERS MIXED : VOLUME ONE : BUTANE (CD)

Conceived of as a label where function precedes form, where tracked-out dance cuts and DJ tools are the music de rigueur, it was only a matter of time before label co-founder Butane put together a mind- expanding mix pulled exclusively from the Little Helpers catalog. Creative DJs take note: this is just a taste of what’s possible when you combine skillful mixing and strict quality-control. No hits. No chart music. Just solid grooves and would-be b-sides, reprogrammed by one of the truly talented DJs in this business. Herein lies proof that complexity can indeed arise from the simplest of forms.

For Volume One of Little Helpers Mixed, Butane breaks down 43 exclusive tracks from the label’s catalog and rebuilds them into an ambitious psychedelic techno trip. If you’re already familiar with the Little Helpers catalog, prepare for something a bit different, as each track is edited, looped, layered, and arranged to become something much more than the sum of its parts. Upon first listen, one hears skillfully placed melodies, patient, effortless transitions, and warm percussive sequences, all crafted meticulously from the sounds of Little Helpers’ many fine artists. Upon successive listens, hidden surprises are discovered lurking just beneath the surface, inviting the listener to interact with and add his or her own contribution to the creative act. Prepare for many special moments as the music increasingly becomes heard as a single, harmonious composition.

True art should be immersive, intense, and timeless. This mix, all of those, is the reflection of the singular mind of Butane, re-envisioned as only he could, and it perfectly embodies the spirit of the label it represents. In two short years, Little Helpers has released 30 EPs that have fueled underground DJ sets around the world. This mix is a testament to all of the artists involved, and speaks to the unlimited creative potential of digital DJing. Here’s to the future of music.

MATTHEW BURTON & KATE RATHOD // Visionquest 010

THE FLIP SIDE EP

A1. Warehouse Fool
B1. New Funk
B2. Flip Reverse Girl

Matthew Burton & Kate Rathod are the next duo to leave their distinctive mark on the Visionquest imprint. Delivering a deep and dreamy melodic work out with softly fractured beats and reverberating vocals ‘The Flip Side EP’ is three wintry cuts of understated house music.

Influenced by their techno forefathers and favouring analogue gear, the duo’s production style exudes an improvised quality. Kate says her strengths lie in the melodic side of things, whereas Matthew is more about creating the groove. Whether you’re witnessing the unique sound they make through this EP or their expanding live set, the pair’s fizzing musical chemistry is clear. ‘The Flip Side EP’ perfectly encapsulates this raw sound padded with soul.

From a naked kick and snare, ‘Warehouse Fool’ builds with warm pads, melting vocal echoes and spacey FX. The stripped back beauty of restrained hypnotic beats provides a soothing afterhours sound. ‘New Funk’ has more dancefloor purpose with its rolling, dirty groove and dynamic synth melodies.

In ‘Flip Reverse Girl’ suggestive vocals coalesce with a casual swinging groove fuelled by deep broken beats. The composition is simplicity at its finest, an entirely self-possessed sound that strikes a chord with its atmosphere, jamming feel and wry sensuality.

Long-term partners turned collaborators Matthew Burton and Kate Rathod have been producing music together for around 3 years, collecting various hardware synths, instruments and effects, which allows their sound is continually evolve. Matthew has been in electronic music for the past decade and worked with Connect Four, Retrofit and Leftroom, also giving Sammy Dee’s Ultrastretch label its first release. Kate came to dance music a little later after meeting Matthew in 2007.

After an acclaimed RA podcast, collaborative releases on Retrofit and Organic Art Movement and now Visionquest, Matthew and Kate’s live act will continue grow their burgeoning set of fans.

MARCO FARAONE // New Podcast

New set from MARCO FARAONE for the Life is…. podcast.  Enjoy!

MARCO FARAONE // New Releases

Marco Faraone and Arado // Goodfellas Ep

Last year, with their first Moon Harbour release, the “Strange Neighbors EP”, MARCO FARAONEand ARADO proved that they know how to produce club hits. The title track represents a milestone in the careers of both deejays; and their calendars have become significantly fuller.

For their new “Goodfellas EP” — which is the first release of a new digital-only series on Moon Harbour — each artist contributed two solo tracks. This time, after several collaborations, he decided to record on his own in the studio. The result: two irresistible groove tools that roll over the dance floor with unstoppable energy.

MARCO FARAONE has already produced several solo recordings. His two tracks on the EP are also clearly committed to the groove. “It’s Not The Time” was one of the highlights in Matthias Tanzmann’s sets last summer — similar to “Strange Neighbors” the year before last. Like in many other tracks by these two artists, the focus is on the beats. The suspense develops through the arrangements. The last track, “Orange Again”, therefore seems slightly restrained but grabs the listener with a nonchalantlyknocked off groove.

Marco Faraone – It’s not the time

JOHANNES HEIL (Cocoon) releases new album and joins PLAYKULA

A SOLID AND PURE LIVE ACT

We are very pleased to announce that JOHANNES HEIL joins PLAYKULA for worldwide representation!

We’ve been huge fans of HEIL’s work since we heard his debut masterpiece “PARANOID DANCER (Kanzleramt) hammered by Richie Hawtin at Loveparade in Berlin back in 1998… I still get goose bumps just thinking about it…

Many outstanding, banging, psychedelic and deep tracks followed and catapulted JOHANNES HEIL to the top of his game. He became one of the most influential and respected producers on the international electronic music scene, always keeping his productions on a very high level and consistently staying loyal to techno.

His latest release FROM WITHIN (released on Gregor Treshers label Break New Soil) reached position 8 of the Beatport Charts and position 15 of „Groove Tracks Of The Year 2011“.

JOHANNES HEIL now returns with his 9th album entitled HEILIGER BIMM BAMM.
The album will be released as a series of 4 x 12″ high-end vinyl packages plus CD and digital format on the lately formed Nachtstrom sublabel Starkstrom

[Starkstrom SST001] Johannes Heil – Heiliger Bimm Bamm Pt. 1 (Album Preview) by Nachtstrom Schallplatten

Intelligently produced, deep, funky, innovative and highly psychedelic techno tracks… pure ‘excellence’!

Johannes delivers every time… He doesn’t just repeat his usual live set…. he feels the energy and the vibe on the dance floor and adapts his LIVE SET accordingly

ORGANIC ART MOVEMENT 002 // The Camp Pirate EP

OAM002 | Matthew Burton and Kate Rathod – The Camp Pirate EP

FEEDBACK:

www.whatpeopleplay.com/albumdetails/null/id/45416

Ahoy me hearties, swash buckling scally wags and land lubbers! Matthew Burton and Kate Rathod deliver the second release for Organic Art Movement.

The Camp Pirate is the tale of a homosexual pirate with a cross dressing fetish. He goes around from port to port selling diamonds and pearls to the rich women of the towns. The Pirates and The Closet scuttles further into the seedy underworld of this old seadog, with the conclusion of the story battling down the hatches on The Pirate’s Acceptance.

To finish off this ep we have two deep sexual house groovers with The Way It’s Gonna Be and Nigel’s Minky. These two tracks make it onto the vinyl release as well as a special edit of The Camp Pirate.
